Understanding Pregnancy

When it comes to pregnancy and having a baby, it is important to know some of the basics. Of
course, becoming pregnant and knowing your most fertile days is challenging for some, while
easy for others. Being able to have the information needed, a woman can then make decisions
about becoming pregnant and being able to know instead of asking when should I get
pregnant?

Every woman is different and what might be with you is different for someone else. This is why it
is important to know your own body well.

A Woman’s Fertile Window

Every woman has a fertile window. This is the time that she is able to become pregnant. This
window is important to know since this is the time that a woman is more likely to become
pregnant. The most fertile days are the five days leading up to ovulation. Knowing the answer to
the question, how long does sperm live inside the vaginal canal, can also provide you with more
information. Sperm does not last for a long time in the vaginal canal, which means that it is ideal
to have intercourse two to three days before ovulation.

Once a woman starts to ovulate, her fertile window has passed. This is why it is important for a
woman that is trying to conceive to know not only when she ovulates but also her most fertile
days.

Conception

Conception happens when the sperm and egg meet within the uterus. This happens during the
fertile window that the woman has. When the egg and sperm meet they create an embryo. This
is what the baby is known as until the eighth week when it becomes a fetus. It is also known as
fertilization of the ovum by the sperm.
At the start of conception, a woman may not even know she is pregnant. She will have no
symptoms, though some women state that they experience light cramping early on in the
pregnancy and light red streaking or spotting when the fertilized egg attaches itself to the side of
the uterine wall.

Quick Facts on Pregnancy
Here are some quick facts about pregnancy and what to expect throughout the entire nine
months.

Pregnancy consists of 3 trimesters – first, second and third – nine months total
If you are tall or overweight, then you have a greater chance of conceiving multiples
At four months pregnant your baby will begin to urinate inside the womb and then will drink it
back up. Your heart grows during pregnancy to move that extra blood through your body and works
harder to do so.

Women that are pregnant have less oxygen in their blood stream which is why they are forgetful
Many babies are born with a waxy coating known as vernix.
A mucous plug stops bacteria from entering into the uterus during pregnancy, a pregnant
woman will lose this when she begins to get ready to give birth.

Pregnancy Problems
Some problems and issues can arise with pregnancies, though they are rare. Ectopic
pregnancies happen from time to time. This is when the embryo starts growing in the fallopian

tubes instead of in the uterus. This can not only cause the woman pain, but it can cause the
fallopian tube to burst when the embryo starts to grow.

Signs of ectopic pregnancy include bloating, bleeding, vomiting and nausea and extreme pain in
the pelvis area. The pain can be intense at times and might radiate throughout the area.
Fertility issues can also be a problem for both men and women. Low sperm count is a regular
problem for men. There are many ways that this can be rectified, so it is important to speak with
a healthcare provider if you feel that something is wrong.

Some women have a tilted uterus or a retroverted uterus that might worry them some. It is
shown that around 20% of all women have a tilted uterus and the good news is that it is nothing
to worry about most of the time. Many women that have a retroverted uterus can still conceive
and have children normally with minimal complications. Sometimes, however, this may mean
that a woman will have to push harder, in a certain position or may have to have a C-section
depending on how tilted her uterus is. Some women that have tilted uteruses are not even
aware of it because it is not a medical problem, it is just an anomaly, much like having a longer
second toe.

Fertility pills and other fertility products are given to those that are having a harder time than
normal conceiving to help boost their ability to do so. These pills and other products help to
boost sperm count and can even bring about false positive pregnancy tests in woman that take
them, as their HCG levels might be higher than normal.

Pregnancy Tests
If you feel that you may be pregnant, you can purchase a pregnancy test online and take it once
it gets to your home. Knowing the answer to, how soon can you take a pregnancy test, is also
going to help you. It is recommended that you take one after a week of missing a period with
your first morning urine. Some tests do have a higher sensitivity rating so you’re able to take
one as soon as you miss a period or even before you do sometimes. The type of test you
purchase will depend on when you’re able to take one.

If it shows that you’re not pregnant but you have all of the symptoms, test again in a few days to
be sure. You can also speak with your healthcare provider to find out if you’re pregnant through
a blood test that can be given and is accurate. It can also detect HCG in lower levels towards
the very beginning of a pregnancy.

If you are trying to conceive or perhaps have already conceived and wanted more information,
this provides more. It is always best to speak with your healthcare provider to confirm your
pregnancy with them and to have any questions answered. Getting prenatal care as soon as
possible in a pregnancy is the best way to go to make sure that baby and mom are both happy
and healthy throughout the entire nine months of the pregnancy.
